18 Months Not Talking. Perhaps a referral to an SLP would be warranted but there are many other reasons why an 18 month old isnt talking. I have an 18 month old boy. My son is very vocal with jibber jabber but does not have real words. My daughter is going to turn 21 months in 2 weeks and Im a little concerned with her talking.

For example by the time your child is 18-24 months old he or she should be according to BabyCenter saying somewhere in the range of 50 words.
