20 Month Old Not Talking. Many kids with speech delays have oralmotor problems. Their is time when he says mum to me but now not. My 20 month old is slow to talk as well. I am on the brink of making a GP appt but thought I would see if anyone else out there can offer supportadvice.
Language delays can be caused by many different factors like hearing issues or muscle problems or could be part of other conditions such as a learning disability or autism. He can hear me and responds to what I am telling him but only says Mama pretty much to everything. He makes plenty of noise intonations and sounds but mainly communicates by saying dee and pointing. He doesnt really seem very interested. Only few words like dada dede nana kaka and they all in form of babbling no exact clear word. They both spoke fairly early as I recall and talk for England now.
A typical 20-month-old has a spoken vocabulary of about 12-15 words though many children have far more.
Before 12 months babies use their voices to communicate through for example cooing and babbling. Their is time when he says mum to me but now not. It is also not uncommon for younger siblings to talk later than their older siblings did. They both spoke fairly early as I recall and talk for England now. Oh I talk with him and read. Even when she tries to talk like ball shell say ba but only if we ASK her to say ball.
